On the following pages, the Section of Urban Climatology from within the Office for Environmental Protection of the City of Stuttgart provides information on climate, air and noise - and this not only for Stuttgart. |
May |
|
May is the last month before autumn in which temperature can drop below the freezing level. The last frost day in the inner city is May 11 and May 20 in the higher district of Hohenheim. The "ice saints" (12-15 May) can bring unexpected freezing. In May, a polar area with increasing pressure moves southwards and shifts the centre of high pressure from Asia to the Atlantic. Apart from September, May is the only month with a belt of high pressure that stretches from the West to the East of Central Europe and mostly brings fine weather. The heating activity has decreased to an extent that the air pollution concentrations are more and more caused by the traffic. For more informations on the monthly and yearly average values in Stuttgart please visit the chapter on the Climate calendar - month. |
