STADTLUFT

Abstract::
Urban air paths are of great importance for the reduction of thermal and air pollution stress on residents of cities. Urban air paths can be classified into ventilation paths, clean air paths, cold air paths and bioclimatic clean and cold air paths. Urban air paths depend on geometric features and the aerodynamic surface roughness of urban spaces, on relief cuts as well as thermal and air pollution patterns.

For Munich urban air paths have been determined by the grid method and the blockwise method. As results maps of effective heigths and bioclimatic effects of urban air paths are presented and discussed.

IMLAST

Abstract::
Air Pollution data from official air control stations in Bavaria have been investigated by means of statistics for the period 1979 until 1992. the analysis shows uniform negative linear trends for SO2 and CO. For NO and NO2, unchanged conditions were determined in general within the investigation period. Little positive or negative trends, however, could be found for some individual stations. O3-concentrations have a supra-regional increase with centre in rural spaces. The maximum mean values of O3 were also recorded in rural spaces, while short-time maximum peak-values of O3 were mainly measured in urban spaces.

IMKRAL

Abstract::
The research project "Air pollution caused by motor-traffic in urban spaces" (abbreviated by IMKRAL) has been performed in Munich from spring 1989 until spring 1993.

Air pollutants measured in several street-canyons of different geometry were standarized in order to be compared to each other. Street-width, wind speed above roof level and amount of emission are the basis for the standardization. High values of standardized concentrations of NOx and CO were found in those street-canyons where building-height is greater than street-width.

For the analysis of air pollution in different urban structures six car-traverses in the Munich area was disigned. The highest air pollutants concentrations have been measued in vehiculra tunnels except ozone. Because of these high concentrations of air pollutants that were found inside the tunnel, a special ivestigation was carried out in order to analyse air pollution inside and outside of 5 vehicular tunnels in detail. In those tunnels different patterns of air pollutants were detected, depending on the ventilating-system, the tunnel lengt and whether the traffic-lanes for each direction are located together in the tunnel or separately by a wall.
